Tutoring
Available
Drop-in
tutoring is a free service available to all Iowa Central students
who are having problems with their coursework. At least two tutors
are in the area at all times to help students on a first-come,
first-served basis. If a tutor is not available in the subject
area with which a student needs help, the hours for the appropriate
tutor will be given to the student so he/she can come back at
a later time. Many students use the SSC for studying because they
know they can get help when they need it.
Proofreading
of papers allows students to go through their papers with a tutor
to look for common writing mistakes and organizational problems.
Study
groups will be organized as students stop in and express an interest.
Popular study groups in the past have allowed students to study
Anatomy and Physiology I and II together, as well Statistics I and II.
Computers
and computer assistance are available in the SSC. Help is available
for word processing, spreadsheets, internet research, and email.
Classroom Assistance is for students who are having trouble with
any or all coursework and feel they need individualized, scheduled,
and monitored tutoring for the semester. With this type of tutoring,
the student signs a contract promising to attend the sessions, is assigned a specific tutor and a specific time, and pays
a fee. A pass/fail grade is given in Classroom Assistance.
