Administrative
Withdrawal
When
a student has missed 20 percent of scheduled class time (excluding
college-related activities), the instructor has the option of initiating
the withdrawal of the student from the class. (Instructors will
include the Administrative Withdrawal Policy in all first day course
hand-outs/syllabi.) An instructor initiating the withdrawal process
will use the following procedure:
1. Prior to
a student missing 20-percent of scheduled class time, the instructor
will notify the student in writing of her/his excessive absences
and remind the student of the Administrative Withdrawal policy.
2. The instructor
will notify the student in writing, using the Administrative Withdrawal
Form, that the instructor has withdrawn the student from the class.
3. The student
has the option of initiating an appeal of the withdrawal. If an
appeal is desired, the student must initiate the process within
five days of the date of receipt of notification. During the appeal
process, the student has the right to continue attending class.
Appeal Process
When the student takes issue with the initiation of the withdrawal
process, such student must discuss the problem with the instructor
involved. If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved, the appeal
process will follow this order:
1. Department
Chair
2. Vice-President
of Instruction
3. President
4.
Board of Trustees.
