Description
Sociology is the application of scientific principles and
procedures to understand and solve the problems of social groups,
organizations, and institutions. Sociologists study how people
relate to each other and how groups influence individuals.
Iowa Central's Sociology curriculum is designed
to prepare students for a major in Sociology at a senior institution.
The curriculum provides a broad perspective of sociological
issues, methods of sociological study and research techniques.
Skills of analysis also provide a means to study related areas
in the Social Sciences such as Anthropology, Psychology, Religion,
History, Political Science/Government, Geography, and Economics.
Students
interested in majoring in Sociology can complete
their first two years of coursework at Iowa Central and then
transfer to a public or private college for the remaining
two years. Students planning to major in Sociology or Anthropology
are encouraged to take additional elective courses in the
Social
Sciences.
