Drissel |

Bio:
David
Drissel has been a professor of political science, history,
and sociology courses at Iowa Central Community College
since August 1995. He advises the Student Senate and participates
extensively in international focus events and voter registration
campaigns. Prior to August 2001, he served as department
chair for Social Sciences, Education and Psychology, and
Physical Education at the College. He is originally from
Montgomery, Alabama, where he taught at a local junior college
before moving to Iowa.
He
received his B.S. degree from the University of North Alabama
in 1980, majoring in political science and sociology. He
completed his master’s degree in political science
with a minor in history at Auburn University in 1992, where
he wrote his thesis paper on the collapse of communism in
the former Soviet Union. He is currently working on a PhD
in sociology at Iowa State University, with concentrations
in social inequality, social movements, and criminology.
Mr.
Drissel was selected for inclusion in “Who’s
Who Among America’s Teachers” in 2002 and 2004.
He also received the “Excellence in Teaching Award”
from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational
Development in 2003 and was recognized as one of the “Outstanding
Young Men of America” in 1996. He participated in
the Oxford Roundtable at Oxford University (England) in
2004 and the Czech-Slovak Study Abroad program as a Fulbright-Hayes
scholar in 2001. He is very involved in community service
projects and has served on the boards of the Salvation Army
and the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center in Fort
Dodge.

Dr. Alissa R. King

Bio:
Alissa R. King is a native Iowan who began teaching full-time at Iowa Central Community College in August of 2006. Prior to moving to Fort Dodge, she lived in Ames where she taught Sociology courses at both Iowa State University and at Des Moines Area Community College as an adjunct instructor at the Ankeny, Boone, and Urban campuses. At Iowa Central Community College, in addition to instructing Sociology courses, Alissa is involved in creating and implementing diversity and social justice training programs for faculty and staff and she serves on several committees within her department and campus-wide. She is also the advisor of the Multicultural Student Union (MSU), a student organization that takes a hands on approach to gaining awareness of a variety of issues such as age, language, race/ethnicity, sexual/gender identity, ability, and socioeconomic status.
Alissa received her Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree with a minor in Sociology in 2001, and her Master’s in Sociology in 2003, writing a master’s thesis entitled: Locker rooms and chapter rooms: Hegemonic masculinity imperatives and masculine identities among subgroups of men on a college campus. After completing all of the coursework for her Ph.D. in Sociology in 2006, Alissa transferred into the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program with an emphasis in community colleges and a minor in Sociology. She completed her doctorate in Higher Education in 2008, and wrote a doctoral dissertation entitled: Uncertainty and evolution: Contributions to identity development for female college students who identify as multiracial/biracial-bisexual/pansexual. All of her degrees are from Iowa State University.
Alissa’s hobbies include weightlifting, spending time with her two Great Danes and three cats, and doing a variety of outdoor activities.

| Lyle Stevens |

Bio:
Lyle was born in Des Moines and grew up in northern Polk county, graduating from North Polk High School in Alleman, Iowa. He attended Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, earning an AA degree. He earned his BSEd in Social Science Education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. He proceeded to earn his MA in History from Northwest, specializing in Tudor-Stuart England and 19th Century American History (New Nation, Civil War, Trans-Mississippi West).
Lyle moved to Fort Dodge in 1987 and served as an assistant baseball coach at Iowa Central in 1988 before taking over the head coaching position for the 1989 season. He returned for the 1996 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the baseball team. He have been an instructor at Iowa Central since the fall of 2004(as an adjunct until January of 2008). He has been full-time since January 2008. He also teaches American History classes for Buena Vista University’s Fort Dodge center where he has taught the American Civil War and classes on Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Harry Truman.
Lyle has been married to his wife Karen since August of 1988 and they reside in Fort Dodge with their cat. His interests include Triton athletics, Chicago Cubs baseball, Northwest Missouri football, and Civil War history. He enjoys good historical movies and watching “Deadliest Catch”, “The Tudors”, “Man vs. Wild”, and “Survivorman”.

| Ralph
Wedeking |

Bio:
Ralph
Wedeking, sociology and religion instructor, is from northeast
Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Clarksville. He has a B.A.
& M.A. in Sociology from the University of Northern
Iowa, and a M. A. in religion from Eden Seminary, St. Louis,
Missouri. He is an ordained minister in the United Church
of Christ, a liberal Protestant denomination. He was a full-time
pastor for 9 years and still serves a small congregation.
He was the administer of a program for the poor and the
elderly for 5 years before coming to Iowa Central since
the fall of 1971.
