The
Automotive Technology program is designed to prepare students for
employment in the fast paced, ever-changing, high technology automotive
service industry and to update those currently employed in the automotive
industry. During the first year of the program students develop
competence in servicing today’s automotive systems and additional
diagnostic and repair expertise on engines, manual and automatic
transmissions/trans-axles, differentials and automotive electrical
systems. During the second year of the program, the diagnostic and
repair emphasis is concentrated in the areas of air-conditioning,
hearting, fuel, ignition, emission, exhaust, computerized power
train controls, brakes, suspension and steering systems. Upon successful
completion of the Automotive Technology course of study, students
will receive an Associates of Applied Science Degree.
Do
you like working with cars? Always wondered what makes things tick?
Automotive Technology is the field for you.
Enroll
in this program and you’ll spend a minimum of five hours a
day working in the shop perfecting your “know how” and
your “know why”. This time is divided between actual
shop work on automobiles and technical study.
In
addition, you’ll take one related subject each semester. These
related subjects are built around the needs of the auto mechanic
and prepare the graduate for employment.
The
first year of the program is designed to give a sound background
in general mechanics including engine overhaul and tune-up.
The
second year, you’ll receive instruction in the electrical
system, transmission repair, suspension and front-end alignment,
and air conditioning.
