Virtual Class - vClass

How does it work? | Getting Started | Cost | Withdraw | Accreditation

Imagine yourself taking a live Iowa Central class from the convenience of your own home! Iowa Central's Virtual Class (vClass) now makes it possible for students to take part in live classes with live instructors. As long as you have internet access (minimum 56k dial up), a computer that is less than five years old, and a headset, you can participate in one of Iowa Central's vClasses. However, if you do not have these items, you can come to a designated computer lab at one of our campuses to take a vClass.

How does it work?
Virtual Class (vClass) is a system that allows students and instructors to communicate via the internet.  The course content is distributed live (synchronous) over the internet.  All students will put on their headsets and login to the class at the designated time their class meets. The instructor communicates by live audio, text messaging, polling, or by using an internet white board.  Courses are also recorded and posted for students to view outside of the designated class time.

Getting Started in a Virtual Class
Prior to the start of the semester you are enrolled in, you will receive an email on your Iowa Central student email account (located in TritonPass) with instructions on how to access your vClass for the first time.
To access your Iowa Central Student Email Account, go to the Iowa Central home page and click on the TritonPass link.  This will take you to the login page you need to use to get to your email account.

  • Your username is the first part of your email address (without the @student.iowacentral.edu). To look up your username go to the "Student E-mail Directory"
  • Your password is the first three letters of your last name in CAPS and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.  (If you do not have a Social Security Number, try using the last four digits of your Iowa Central student ID number.

After you login to TritonPass, your email account can be found by clicking on “E-mail”, in the upper-left corner of the portal page.
You must login to your course by the end of the Add/Drop period (first four days of the semester) to avoid being administratively withdrawn from your vClass.  For those taking the course from home, it is highly recommended to download the system in advance.

How Do I Obtain Course Textbooks?
You may order your textbook and other required materials by stopping by or calling the Iowa Central Bookstore at 1-800-362-2793, Ext. 2041. Books and course materials ordered by phone must be paid for prior to shipping. Most major credit cards are accepted for those students who order their books by phone.

If necessary, when must I withdraw from my Virtual Class?
You must request to withdraw from a vClass up to 1 week prior to final examination week.  Not attending a class does not constitute a withdrawal.  To obtain a course withdraw slip, or for more information about withdrawing from a course, stop by or contact the Student Records office by calling 1-800-362-2793, ext. 1022.  There is a fee for dropping/adding classes.
