How does it work?
Online courses are taught via the internet in a weekly synchronous format using iNET (located in TritonPass). Each course begins and ends with the semester dates, so the first day of the term is the first day of the course. Assignments and discussion postings are required each week of the course.
Enrollment
You can enroll in an Online course during registration and during the Add/Drop period (first four days of the semester).
Online classes are designed for students who have trouble taking classes due conflicts that restrict them from taking college courses on campus, but desire the synchronous design of the traditional classroom. Iowa Central Distance Learning is gradually adding new Online synchronous courses to the schedule each term.
Follow these two easy steps to enroll in Online courses:
- Fill out the Iowa Central Application for Distance Education Courses, found on this website, or apply and register by phone by calling 1-800-362-2793, and ask for admissions.
- Send payment by check or money order, or pay with a credit card by calling 1-800-362-2793, extension 4880.

Getting Started in Online Courses
At the start of the term, you will receive an Online Welcome email on your Iowa Central student email account (located in TritonPass) with directions how to access your course in iNET.
To access your Iowa Central Student Email Account, go to the Iowa Central home page and click on the TritonPass link. This will take you to the login page you need to use to get to your email account.
- Your username is the first part of your email address (without the @student.iowacentral.edu). To look up your username go to the "Student E-mail Directory"
- Your password is the first three letters of your last name in CAPS and the last four digits of your Social Security Number. (If you do not have a Social Security Number, try using the last four digits of your Iowa Central student ID number.)
After you login to TritonPass, your email account can be found by clicking on “E-mail”, in the upper-left corner of the portal page. This is where you will find your Online Welcome Email. A copy of your Online Welcome Email can also be found on your WebAdvisor account under the “Internet Welcome Information” link.
If you have any technical difficulties accessing your course you can call the iNET Support Line at 1-866-895-2456.
When must I pay for my Online Course?
You are expected to make payment for the course or establish a monthly payment plan with the Business Office just as you would for traditional, face-to-face courses.
How Do I Obtain Course Textbooks?
Most Online courses require a textbook. You can order your textbook by going to the Iowa Central Online Bookstore. You can find the link to the bookstore on the Iowa Central home page, www.iowacentral.edu.
If necessary, when must I withdraw from my Online Course?
You must request to withdraw from an Online course no later than 10 days prior to your end date (same as traditional face-to-face courses). You can view the details of withdrawing from an Online Course below.
