PSEO
College classes taken through the Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act (PSEOA) are available to high school juniors and seniors and also to talented and gifted freshmen and sophomores.  These courses may be taken a variety of different ways—face-to-face (on campus), FlexNet, Online, Guided Self-Study (GSS), Virtual Class (vClass), and ICTN (over the TV).  The PSEO courses approved to be taken are determined by each high school.  The student must fill out the Iowa Central enrollment forms with a designated person at the high school, usually the counselor or principal.  Students in English or math courses are required to meet minimum qualifications on a mandatory assessment test in order to enroll in these courses.  The student is not charged for the cost of the course or for the book/s for the course.  The school is charged the actual cost of the course up to $250.  If the student should withdraw or fail the course, however, then the student or parent is required to reimburse the high school for the cost of the course.  Books for PSEO classes are loaned to the students with the understanding that they are returned to the bookstore at the end of the course.

Students may drop* PSEO courses within three weeks of their start date.  The class is removed from the transcript and the high school is not billed.  If students want to withdraw** from PSEO courses after three weeks from their start date, a “W” will be placed on the transcript and the high school will be billed.  Students may not withdraw within one week of the end of the course.

The following is for the aforementioned group of students:
*
Drop is defined as requesting to be removed from a college course without tuition charges or the course placed on the student’s transcript.

**Withdraw is defined as requesting to be removed from a college course, however, a “W” is placed on the student’s transcript and the high school is invoiced for the cost of the course.

If there are questions concerning PSEO or Earlybird classes, please contact Jan McNeil at Iowa Central at 1-800-362-2793 ext. 1096 or mcneil_j@iowacentral.edu.

Earlybird
Earlybird classes are the college classes that are offered at the area high schools, as well as ICN classes to juniors and seniors and also to talented and gifted freshmen and sophomores.  Each high school determines which classes will be offered each semester, upon approval by the college.  Students enroll during the first few days of each class.  Students in English or math courses are required to meet minimum qualifications on a mandatory assessment test in order to enroll in these courses.  There is no cost to the student for either the course or for the books, even if the student should withdraw or fail the course.  The school is billed for each course and the school is required to purchase the books.

Students may drop* an Earlybird class up until midterm of that course.  The class is removed from the transcript and the high school is not billed.  If students want to withdraw** from Earlybird courses between midterm of the course and one week prior to the end of the course, a “W” will be placed on the transcript and the high school will be billed.  Students may not withdraw within one week of the end of the course.

Charter
Charter schools allow students to enroll in college classes while they are still in high school.  There are two charter schools within our region—one at Southeast Webster-Grand High School and the other at Storm Lake High School.  In order to take classes through either charter school, a student must open enroll in the district that he/she wants to attend if the student does not live in that district.  Students can typically earn more college credits through a charter school than through the other methods in which high school students can earn college credits.  Each of these charter schools has their own rules and regulations so if there are questions, the respective high school should be contacted.

Students may drop* Charter courses within three weeks of their start date.  The class is removed from the transcript and the high school is not billed.  If students want to withdraw** from Charter courses after three weeks from their start date, a “W” will be placed on the transcript and the high school will be billed.  Students may not withdraw within one week of the end of the course.
