Welcome to the Business Competition Day Web site!

We hope your school can attend this year on Wednesday April 9, 2008!

Teachers may register students online for events before the March 21st deadline.

 

The following is general information for the competitive events and is subject to revision:

1. Students are asked to dress in appropriate business attire.

2. Only students in their junior or senior year are eligible to participate.

3. Individual Contests—The first-place winner of each individual contest will receive a $100 scholarship towards tuition at Iowa Central Community College. Medals will be awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place winners. Certificates will be given to individual first-, second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-place winners.

4. Team Contests—All members of the first-, second-, and third-place teams of team contests will receive both certificates and medals. Scholarships will not be awarded in team events.

5. A $500 scholarship towards tuition at Iowa Central Community College will be awarded to a qualified senior. Click on Scholarship Link at the top of the Home Page for details

6. The registration/information table will be located in the auditorium lobby. Packets of information will be issued at this location during the registration period from 8:00 - 8:40 a.m.

7. Winners of individual contests will not be announced until the awards assembly at 1:15 p.m.

8. Contestants must enter at least two contests.

9. All contestants should read and be familiar with the rules for their individual contests prior to the day of the contest.

10. Judges have the right to admit or disqualify students who are late to a contest or who demonstrate disrespect or dishonesty during the events.

11. All materials used for contests will be materials selected by the judges. These materials will not be previewed by any participating students or instructors.

12. Tests will be reviewed and evaluated only by the judges. The decisions of the judges will be final. All ties for first-, second-, third-, fourth-, or fifth-place will be broken in a manner to be determined by the contest judge(s).

13. Students should check the rules for the contests they are entering and the supplies summary sheet to determine if they need to bring supplies of any type.

14. If a student will be unable to participate on the day of the competition, please note that on the sheet provided in the registration packet and return to the staff at the registration desk.

15. If a student takes first-place in a contest, he or she is not eligible to enter that contest in future competitions.

16. Individual scores of contests will NOT be made available to teachers and students after competition.

17. The student break rooms will be monitored by Iowa Central Business Department staff. During this time, students are required to participate in a Campus Scavenger Hunt.

18. Pictures will be taken of contest winners during the Awards Assembly from 1:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

19. The press release information is to be e-mailed to Katie Nedved @ Nedved@iowacentral.com by March 21st, 2008.

20. To receive a door prize, the individual must be present at the Awards Assembly.

21. Computerized tests will be administered on IBM compatible computers.

22. Karaoke will begin in the gymnasium at 11 a.m. and continue through lunch until 1:00 p.m.
