Iowa
Central Art Program
The
Art Program provides a problem solving structure
in which students can explore ideas, enhance visual perception and
develop creative-thinking skills. Students will acquire basic visual
vocabulary, an understanding of the “story” of art and
an appreciation of the contribution the arts and artists make to
the fabric of society.
Art
classes at Iowa Central are designed to provide
a complete curriculum for art majors who plan to transfer into
a four-year art program, as well as exploratory courses designed
for
the non-art major. To succeed in art, students need active imagination,
a curious mind and perseverance to acquire the skills relevant
to the design process. Students planning to major in art should
enroll in a variety of art courses offered at Iowa Central.
The
art facilities at Iowa Central have newly been
updated, and they promise to provide excellent opportunities for
all students interested in the visual arts to explore the history
of the genre and to create meaningful works of art.
Students
may begin their art major or minor at Iowa Central,
and then, transfer to another college. Or they may utilize areas
of the Art Program to develop career skills, such as photography
or graphic design, that will provide them with tools needed to
fulfill
their career goals.
Students
also may take art classes for general enrichment or to meet
Humanities requirements.
